The Library is committed to supporting and aligning with other racial equity and social justice efforts throughout the city of Madison - including the work being done by community organizations and grassroots organizers. In our role as providers of items and access, Madison Public Library has created this resource list (books, videos, articles, websites, music, podcasts) which includes suggested resources from groups working on racial equity and social justice in Madison. Beginning in 2014, the City of Madison undertook a deliberate, focused and organized effort called the Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative (RESJI). One of the guiding principles of the City's RESJI is authentic, ongoing public engagement and participation, with the goal of changing the culture of our city - including addressing institutional racism.

The focus of our adult lists is on race and racism - and is not exhaustive.  The lists for children focus on celebrating multiculturalism and overcoming bias.

We welcome your comments and suggestions, and purchase recommendations, as this resource continues to grow.
